I don't raise animals, and I've never really worked on a farm (just visited a few.)

But I don't see how having a 6 foot long snake in the chicken coop is a good thing.

Aren't the adult birds, the chicks, and the unhatched eggs, all fair game for the snake to kill?

Rat snakes are also called chicken snakes, and Not because they guard the chickens.

I dont kill snakes, if the poisonous ones leave me alone I leave them alone.Had an over 6 foot black snake in the yard here. never had a chipmunk problem since it took up here.

The Question I posed was tongue in cheek referring to your comment about killing their own.. Sort of like the battles going on at the state level... Yes I have been around just few chicken houses in my life..
