grilling idiot help?

We had our deck re-done last year and took advantage of our grill's dual-fuel capability. Now she runs on natural gas and no more propane cylinders!

I'm a fan of the Charbroil models.

But everyone that I know that have a BGE love them. I'm just not that big into grilling.

Thing about grilling. you want that grilled flavor, not just to heat your food up. Propane fails to do that. Get a good charcoal grill, find some mesquite or hickory chips, or experiment with a few others. You can marinade a steak, Burger, chicken, or pork chop (and I mean a big fat pork chop) all you want, shove any beer up any chickens ass, soak a brat in any beer, but til you get that smoke flavor, you're just warming your food up. Propane is fine for for bland burgers and dogs, but if you're going to do up an expensive cut of beef, you want the flavor smoke gets you. there's a reason they sell this.

Charcoal! I bought a $100 Kingsford grill from Wal-Mart that works great. I upgraded from the old kettle style grill. Just make sure you get a charcoal chimney. It allows you to get the coals hot without using lighter fluid. Also, soak some hickory chips in water and put the wet chips on the hot coals once you've dumped them from the chimney and spread them out. Biggest draw back to charcoal is that it's messier but damn it taste better!

Charcoal has the best flavor for sure, but it is more trouble to use.

Gas is easy, but doesn't have the flavor. I've got a hand me down propane grill and once it dies, I'm getting a charcoal grill.

I've got a gas and a charcoal. Charcoal has it's pluses, but it does take longer. I mostly cook with gas. I'm on the move alot, so the gas is just faster and easier. My gas grill is a lot bigger, so if I'm having a party and cooking dogs and burgers for 15 people, the gas grill can hold that much food, my charcoal won't. Also, I like to spend time with my friends, so the gas is a heckuva lot quicker to grill and be done.

If funds prohibit, you can get a killer smoke/charcoal setup for 400 bucks!!! Stay away from propane, charcoal has a little more work in it but the outcome is well worth the wait
