grilling idiot help?

Weber! Charcoal! Don't forget to grab a couple of those charcoal-starter chimneys. I'm constantly amazed at how many guys don't know how to get a charcoal grill going quickly and easily.

I have 2 grills, a Green Mountain Pellet Grill and a Weber Charcoal grill. The Pellet is the convenience of a gas but with the smoky flavor of a charcoal and is great for cooking most things and is a great smoker as well since it can stay at a lower temperature, the only draw back to the pellet grill is that if you really want to sear a steak then charcoal grill is better since you can get it to higher temperatures.

I've got 3 grills. I like different tools for different jobs ;)

Weber Kettle - classic charcoal grill. It's the best that I have. Just upgraded with a cast iron grate. I recommend a thermometer too. Start here if you want to take your time. Warning; you'll never be able to enjoy steak at places like Applebee's anymore.

Propane - type doesn't really matter, IMO. I got it as a secondary for parties and to grill quick hot dogs and burgers after work. I probably use it more often than the Weber. That just means it's better than my electric stove, which isn't saying much.

Old Smokey - inexpensive but good little US made charcoal grill. It's good for packing up on a trip. It's good for beer butt chicken because it's tall and compact. It'd work for grilling dinner for two.

O now ain't you special...lol

LOL, I wasn't trying to brag. The OP has a budget of $400. I probably spent less than that on everything for those 3 grills.

Picking a grill is just like picking a gun... you can stress about what is the best one to get... or you can just get more of them ;)
