GWCL expired

Renewed mine, about 1 month prior to my old one expiring. In my county, I got the new one within 6 days!

I like it for reasons mentioned previously:

- Ease of purchasing at a store.
- Carrying in other states- I travel many states, so some require, some don't, and all have reciprocity.
- Ease of buying here on the site when someone wants the confidence they are not selling to America's Most Wanted or shill buyer.

Even if those stares don’t require a license anymore either?

States typically allow residents to carry without a permit. If you're visiting, you're not a resident, which is why they have reciprocity agreements with other states. These laws can differ state by state, but as it stands at the moment, you shouldn't assume that you can just waltz into another state and be in compliance with that state's laws unless you have a valid permit issued by your 'home' state.

In addition, there are federal laws that are applicable EVEN IN states that have removed the requirements that you have a GWCL or its equivalent. For example, the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1980:

The Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) is an act of the U.S. Congress prohibiting any unauthorized individual from knowingly possessing a loaded or unsecured firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone as defined by 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(26). The law applies to public, private, and parochial elementary schools and high schools, and to non-private property within 1,000 feet (300 m) of them. It provides that the states and their political subdivisions may issue licenses that exempt the licensed individuals from the prohibition.

Note - no license/permit, no exemption.

And so, even if you stay within GA, there may be situations where not having that GWCL puts you at risk of a federal prosecution, even if the likelihood of it happening is low.

This is incidentally one of the reasons why using the term "Constitutional Carry" is inapplicable for all of the states which have removed the requirement that its residents need a permit to carry - because you do not have an absolute right to carry in public - EVEN in your home state.

Hopefully this. I have been diligent about renewing and not needing finger prints.

I don’t mind a few extra bucks cost but I remember having to go to a whole other facility to get finger prints many years ago.
IF it is Gwinnett...they do fingerprinting in the same probate court office that you apply. no more going across the street.

Yep Gwinnett. My FFL said the same thing just a few mins ago. He said if you renew before it expires no FP. if you wait until after it’s expired you do need FP but it’s the room next door

Georgia concealed carry permits are honored in the 33 states listed below:

Keep in mind that if carrying in another state, you must adhere to that state's laws, including age requirement for concealed carry.

Hey folks

Time slipped by and I accidentally let my GWCL expire last week.

what can I expect when I go to the courthouse? Start all over or can I still renew it?

Thanks

I renewed mine in May of this year. Gwinnett gives you 30 days after expiration to renew.
