I believe that you can mix with diesel or basal oil and treat lower two foot of trunk.
I cut sweet gums and treated stumps also hack and squirt.

The dreaded sweet gum. Can you ask your cousin if sweet gum has any commercial value? Those darn things...if you cut one it springs back to life with a bunch of smaller ones at the tree stump. Ugh

We burned about 20 acres today a little damp but humidity was low and wind was cooking.
I asked Forester @Sweet gum and Poplar.
He said not much value unless your nearer (than me) to a plywood mill. Poplar can be used for plywood. Sweet gum pallet wood , maybe some pulp fiber.

Seems like proximity to demand from a mill is key.

I plan to kill all small (under 10” sweet gum and poplar slowly but surely.
