The United States Army Field Artillery branch traces its origins to 17 November 1775 when the Continental Congress, unanimously elected Henry, The Ox, Knox "Colonel of the Regiment of Artillery".

Happy Birthday Red Legs!! Hoo-Ah!

(FYI: It's MY birthday as well, how fitting, US Army Field Artillery Veteran and bringer down of the iron curtain!)

Every time I think of the Army's official song, I hear the lyrics in my head as
"the caissons go rolling along."

Now I understand a few decades ago they had some soldiers feeling left out over that song, because the Army was celebrating "field artillery" and not recognizing all the other jobs that soldiers perform.

So as to not hurt anybody's widdle feewings, the Army changed their theme song to be more inclusive. But I never went along with that; I still sing "the caissons go rolling along...and it's hi, hi, hee for the field artillery..."
