Have Any of You Daily Concealed/Open Carriers Ever Needed It????

Thankfully, no- but came close three times. The first time several years back, a couple of thugs approached me menacingly when I was walking near Georgia Tech campus. While I normally keep my weapon very concealed, one of them spotted a portion of it when they got within about 12-15 feet, and they immediately turned and went the other direction. About three years ago someone approached my car door in downtown Atlanta. I saw him approaching, so I placed my weapon on the seat next to me in plain sight. Once he saw my weapon on the seat, he moved quickly away. About two months ago I was in a local Wal-Mart when a BIG black guy tried to push his way in front of me in the self-check out line, talking smack and trying to impress his family. I stood my ground as he screamed inches from my face what he planned to do to me, threatening physical harm. No one from Wal-Mart did anything to intervene, and everyone within ear shot stopped to watch, while those closest moved quickly away. I calmly told him that he would have to wait his turn just like everyone else and continued to scan the rest of my items (the ones still remaining after he threw some of them two aisles away). I half expected him to follow me outside. I never even hinted that I was carrying, but I took great comfort in knowing that I could protect myself if he tried to do something really stupid.

What a loser. He threw your stuff?

Yep. I decided it wasn't worth it to go after the bag of oranges and all, because then he would have my place in line, which is what he wanted. I can't help but think that his family gave him crap because he couldn't intimidate me...

It's amazing how people act sometimes in public. Makes you think if does that to a complete stranger in wal mart, how does he treat his family behind closed doors at home?

I was getting gas at a station on Hwy 314 north of Riverdale about a yr ago and a low life started circling my pumps on foot. Each time he got a little closer. I was eyeballing him and he was eyeballing me. On his 3rd trip around I cleared my jacket from my CW45 and made sure that he could see it. His eyes got real big and he decided to stroll southward. When I was through I, too, headed in that direction and he was walking down the sidewalk keeping his eye on me. His expression when he saw my weapon at the pumps was one of "Oh Sh_ _!" Priceless, it was.

I was on my way home from getting a burger at the Arby's just off Tech's campus, when a clearly intoxicated man came up to me talking about the football hall of fame on Main Street in Valdosta. (Played football in HS down there, had a Valdosta football shirt on) I informed him that he was mistaken and tried to move past him. He grabbed me by the shirt shoved me backwards and pulled a tekna dive knife and sheath off his belt. I informed him that i didn't have any cash on me, but if he wanted i'd buy him an Arbys burger with my debit card, he got pissed, began swearing, and took a swing at me. Luckly, he was drunk and i have had some training....long story short, broke his arm, threw him into the side of the building, and headed to the gas station across from the Varsity to inform a cop there what had happened. Cop was off duty and didn't seem to care about what i had to say, and despite the fact that he was only 2 blocks away from where this took place, he told me i was lucky to be alive and i should leave it at that. Unfortunately under georgia law, since i was liking in the on campus housing at Tech, i couldn't carry. That incident not only shook my beliefs in the law enforcement community, but made me paranoid.

Since then I've adopted the saying...."A gun is like a condom, I'd rather have one and not need it, then need it and not have one!"
Won't leave the house without my Sig ever again!

Man I love ODT!!!!
Have any of you guys that carry regularly ever actually used your weapon to stop/deter a crime in progress?

Yes.

A burglary at my home.

A domestic on the street, where the man had struck his girlfriend in the face a few times.

In both cases, I held the perpetrator until the Police arrived, at gunpoint.

Several weeks ago, I was in Savannah, leaving a Chinese Buffet, Kikko's, in a seedy part of town (Great Food, Great Prices, Dicey Neighborhood) and had an unknown guy quickly approach me, with obvious criminal intent, based on his words, mannerisms, and posture.

Luckily, I chose to move to his flank, kept me eyes on him and stayed aware of the area, and he did not seem to be comfortable with the fact that my right hand did not leave my pocket.

So, he departed.

And the KelTec PF-9, that was in my hand, in my pocket, ready to go, stayed in my pocket.

I also, instead of a backup, carry Fox PS, for those times when going to a gun may not be warranted. If such is an appropriatte response, and concludes the issue, then there is a LOT less hassle.

Dang....Never thought these situations would really occur this often.....I am sure for some posting this is in years past but still just seeing this many peoples stories is truly eye opening....
