OK so I ordered a set of GO and NOGO guages from Brownells (308 as 762 x51 was OOS)

Took rifle apart to clean and inspect. Stripped the bolt.

Closes on GO and closes on NOGO.

Sooo....is it because 308 guages and I should sue 762x51?

Do I need a field guage?

DO I need to go to a real gunsmith instead of the hold my beer and watch this approach to gun smithing?

I wouldn't choot it unless it checks good on a field gauge, and then I would only shoot 7.62x51 or it's equivalent. Of course if you handload, you could neck size brass formed to the chamber if it passes the field gauge to prevent brass stretching.

Big shout out to @Foxtrot351

He did me a big favor , brought a bunch of headspace gauges to his work, I dopppred by he stood out in the broiling sun with me while I checked headspace.

It headspace OK with 762x51 guages (not 308) so I will be shooting some 7.62x 51 this weekend!

Thanks my friend!

Good deal.

I went through this and found a USGI field gauge in 7.62 NATO. With 308 gauges, it did not pass, but my FR8 passed the NATO field gauge check. I believe what you have is very normal for these rifles.

Grandson with FR8 , planned to let him shoot it first (test fire) ... wife stopped me! Kidding of course he did run @ 50 rounds through my 10-22.
The FR8 is a might too much gun for him now.

FR8 checked out thanks again @Foxtrot351

Put a few rounds through her today , I like this rifle!
