Hello, I am new to firearms and have a question.......

CVA used to.make bolt action rifle kits.
You finished the metal and stock.
I have a Santa Barbera 243 24" varmint weight CVA kit gun from the late 70s early 80s and its a sweet shooter.

I'm dead ass serious. It's not just S&W revolvers I have seen as "kit guns". I understand the explanation on the S&W, thank you.

"Kit guns" were larger frame .22 and .32 that an outdoorsman might keep in his "kit" - a/k/a backpack- for journeying afield. He could use it to take small game or for self protection. The original "kit gun" was by S&W and was a .22 on a .32 caliber frame -- that's why sometimes they are advertised as .22/.32 kit guns.

I get it. S&W has a line called kit guns, then there are many other firearms that people put together and advertise them as a "kit gun" that they put together from a gun kit. Mystery solved!
