The 6.5 creedmor is a stellar big game round, higher velocity, ballistically superior if you ever get to stretch it out on a power line and less recoil than a 308.

I never said anything about hunting or it being a magic pill. I just disagreed that it took 800 yards for the 6.5 to be ballistically superior. Less drop + less drift = superior ballistics.

Exterior ballistics are not the only ballistics. Terminal ballistics are perhaps more important when considering a hunting round and that's what this thread is about.

If the .308 is so great, then why is the military transitioning to the 6.5/6.8? I have .308 rifles as well and they do their job well, but maybe the military knows more than we do.

They are transition to 6.8 from the 5.56, not the 7.62.

The savage hog hunter is a great rifle.

Except when it's not. I'm sure we recall that unpleasantness. Nothing wrong with 308 though, of course. I like just about everything though.
