Help picking a 1911

ok here goes. I want a 1911. Budget of $700-800. Full size. Suggestions please. I know nothing about them. Have looked at Ruger. S&W. Colt. And Springfield.

What are your wants? Beavertail? Safety size? Grip style? Checkering?

It’s much easier and cheaper to buy what you want the first time and on the factory gun if possible.

The factory sigs are a good value. I have bought tacops with night sights, front checkered grip and scent fit for 750 new from a gun shop that advertises here. In Jefferson.

you wanting a GI model or one with all the frills? My brother had a Ruger full sized was pretty nice. looks sexy with the pearl grips too.

Keep in mind that “normal” 1911’s won’t usually fit holsters for the Sigs unless it is from the classic line. It’s something to consider if you won’t stop at 1 pistol.

I came very close to buying a classic match elite in .40 a couple years ago for USPSA SS.

I’d stick to Ruger (if I wanted extras) or Colt (if I wanted no frills) out of those mentioned but handle them all and pick which one you like best. They’re all pretty good.

I have owned and dealt with/sold a lot of different 1911s, including the ones we were issued in the military. For my money the Ruger is hard to beat.
