Hi, i am trying to identify a ww2 m-1 that was supposedly used in combat. Also, a old bolt action rifle with strange markings. Any help would be appreciated!

High res pics of heel of receiver, and the drawing number on as many of the parts as possible.

Also close ups of stock and any cartouches.

Serial number on M1 does put it in WW2 issue range. Looks to have a possible period correct oprod (can;t tell without the revision number that is on it). It has a later trigger group. Looks like a later rear sight as well, again better pics give more info.

Probably reworked after the war, possibly in europe. Cartouches manufacture names and contract numbers on the various parts can help fill in the blanks. Date and manufacturer and acceptance mark on barrel is behind the oprod.

Google how to field strip it and take pics/log all markings/numbers you find..... From that we can let you know what you have... Correct rifles are rare, most have been rebuilt... Look for import markings (name ie. Blue sky)

There is almost no way to document if a M1 was used in combat or not, and actual documented combat use is very rare. Your appears to have been through a rebuild, or someone swapped some parts. It also does not look like original finish on the reciever heel. It could be one of the returns from Greece with the so called Greek Black finish, but it is hard to tell from photos.
