To incorporate a 7” rise, I would have clearance issues on the 11th step leaving less than 6’ of head room to the ceiling. So I guess Im stuck with what Ive got which I guess is the reason they were built this way to begin with. This is assuming code for head clearance would be at least 72”.

Pine is soft, and will not stand up to traffic over time, if you have kids or dogs, pine will get worn quickly.

Mine are going on 19 years, pine is just fine for treads.

Oak wood, walnut stain, semigloss varathane poly...lights on motion sensors, one at top, one at bottom, lights stay on for 28 seconds...haven’t caulked risers yet in these pics...
