Six days ago I start my search for a Browning Hi-Power all belgian made model.

Called around to a few places and located one at Hi-Power in Canton / Holly Springs. The initial phone call was to verify the condition, price and model that they had. The guy was super nice and said the condition was 100% and offered to send me pictures. I accepted and he sent the pictures within 20 minutes. The picture showing the slide was a bit grainy so I called back to confirm it was 100% belgian and not portugal. He confirmed that it was what I was looking for.

We discussed price from there. Gun was a trade in, mint condition. Box and both mags come with it. I asked if there was a some room to play if I paid all cash. He concurred. Told him I was 1.25 hours away and would be coming first thing Monday morning to purchase it.

Today rolls around and I call first thing this morning. I verify that the gun is still there and that it is the same one that I have been looking for. All is confirmed.

Me and the wife head out on the drive. We arrive at the dealer around noon. I was surprised to see such a nice looking location for a gun store. The building and interior were beyond expectations. When walking in, I was greeted within 60 seconds. Which was nice.

I asked for the gun that has been in question to be retrieved for me. The sales guy located it still in the display case. I thought to my self that I sure was glad no one else bought it while I was driving over here, sure would have been pissed.
I was handed the gun for inspection and immediately noticed the "Assembled in Portugal" scroll mark on the slide. I was dumbfounded. I instantly figured there was another Hi-Power in the back, however this was not the case. I was informed this was the only model they have had for at least a week.

I sat back and thought to myself, how could someone do this ? Why ? What benefit would someone have in lying to me ? Was I not clear enough in exactly what I was looking for ?

I figured, Im already here. Lets just try and make the best of the situation. I informed the sales guy of the issue and asked for a reasonable middle ground on the situation. He wondered off and looked in the computer. He came back to tell me that the list price on the gun was what they have in it and that it was a good deal. Couldn't do anything else.

Now it all clicked as to how the facility was so nice and the higher than retail price tags on multiple items were justified.

I sadly left the store with nothing. 2.5 hours wasted. Gas wasted.

I will never go back.

I know you shouldn't have had to do this BUT......I would have made damn sure the pictures showed EXACTLY what you wanted prior to making the drive to get it. It's really no different than some people's interpretation of the condition of a weapon which can vary greatly! Too bad on your experience there as usually it is a good to go gun shop/range.

I've bought a few rifles/pistols from them before the madness but that was only because Big Woods Goods didn't have what I wanted in stock. I price checked them this weekend and they were significantly higher on a pistol that I'm looking at for my daughter. I'm done with the Hi Caliber range unless they change their filtration/air circulation system. Smokey as a coal plant and the target systems bounce for a long time when you run a target out and will also bounce when the next lane over runs their targets out. I like the guys that work there, but for my needs there are better options in the area.

Sorry that happened. It had to be frustrating. I've had issues with service in that we go in and ask for a specific item that is not in stock to be ordered, or for them to check on, etc., and they always take down our info and have never once actually called us back. After 4 or 5 times we quit asking for them to check or order something for us.

You actually got them to answer the phone? That's incredible for them. I once called five times in one day without getting a reply. Instead of being greeted when walking into high caliber, I get looks like, "what the (expletive) are you doing in here?" I take my business to Big Woods now. They're much more professional, friendly, and helpful.
