Holding/Opening doors for women....

.... I will say that when I was in San Antonio, Texas in 2006 I was amazed at how friendly the people there were. Seemed like everybody was glad to see you and had a smile on their face, even getting on the highway folks would slow down and wave to you and let you merge into traffic without a problem.....

Ok, so you obviously never drove north on I-35 to Austin during rush hour but the rest of that is spot on. San Antonio is a big city with a small town feel and my favorite city period. I usually hold doors open sometimes for guys, sometimes not. Depends on my mood, but I always say thanks to someone who holds it for me. Which actually happens daily on an oil rig, believe it or not.

It's funny going from working with a bunch of wanna-be cowboys (Texans) and Coona$$es (Cajuns) who are rough lookin as hell but some of the most polite people in the world and coming back to Atlanta, much easier on the eyes and definitely dressed better, but kinda rude.

I am very young when compared to most members here, but I was raised the same way in my country. Although I am an adult, I still respect the elder and pay attention when they are talking. Sad part is, if I'm around a group of guys my age 24 - 27, I feel like I'm the only one with any etiquette..... yeah courtesy is dying, but if you think its bad here try holding the door for somebody in Miami.... they will look at you like you are from another planet!

Wow...I sense a tri-state shooting spree coming on. ;)

I couldn't do it man. Some days a trip to WalMart makes me have to come home and go OOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM! OOOOOOOOooooooooommmmm.....To be bombarded on a daily basis with people who are jonesin for caffiene, or already ODed on it and still in a hurry for a fix? No way bro!

Good luck. LOL!
appreciate it. if it wasnt for my patience with the famously stupid i would have been fired and or quit already. but i just write off someone being rude to me these days.

It's shows were southern Gentalmen, and I don't know about you but I will die a southern Gentalman. I do get sickened by what I see the world turning into, I'll soon be 50 and I can remember a better time and place, I place stores closed on Sunday, people said yes sir, it was a shame to be on welfare, women stayed home, kids respected their parents, parents looked out for there kids, we talked to each other not a cell phone, eating out was a treat, getting a coke was rare, work any kind of work was good, you would get spanked when needed, I had never heard of a muslim, English was the only language in America, We respected teachers, no credit cards, you could afford insurance, your doctor new your name, Yes I still hold the door for people often showing the more respect than they show themselves by the way they dress and act. well let me get of my soap box and get back to work.

If you hold the door for someone just to hear the thank you after the fact you should just quit doing it all together. You do it out of courtesy and no one owes thanks to you for doing the right thing. Just my 0.02

I don't think that I've read of anybody saying they do it just to hear thank you. Most seem to just think that it would be nice for the person to at least acknowledge the gesture. And you're right, nobody owes me anything for doing the right thing. As a matter or fact, nobody owes me anything for anything. Just my 0.02.
