Hey Guys!
We bought an older house (made in '72) and I am switching out the beige outlets/light switches to white. Some outlets are setup with a power switch for the top plug, some aren't.
Initially I changed out the outlets without breaking the tabs on the hot side caused all outlets to be on in room A regardless of if the power switch was on/off and room Bs dimable light stopped working. I went back and broke the tabs off the 3 that had red/blk. Now the 3 top outlets that I broke the tabs don't work and room Bs dimable light still doesn't work.

Were the outlets on the same circuit as the dimmer?
Is the switch that controlled the outlets in the same box as the dimmer?
Did you replace them all in one go or did you do them one at a time?
Are all the outlets, switches and dimmer on the same circuit?

I would probably wire up the dimmer and make sure it works.
It seems to me that it didn't go back the way it was.
I would probably try to figure out the incoming hot leg and work the circuit out box to box one at a time with a voltmeter as you make a connection.
It should sort itself out quickly as you see which wire goes where

How did you determine the outlets don't work?

Are you using the light that stopped working or some other method of testing?
I used a lamp. I doubled checked the wiring on one of the light switches and found were I had mismatched wires. It solved the main problem of not having power to the top outlet but I still can't get room Bs dimable light to come on.
