Home/Land Advice

I've thought about Newnan or Senoia in the past but wasn't totally sure on their safety factors being so close to Riverdale & South Fulton. I may try starting my search there again.

I've been wanting to move out of the home I'm currently in for over a year now & it reached a boiling point the other week when some d-bag decided it would be a good idea to let out 5 shots from his pistol about 100yrds from my back door.

This wouldn't be a problem for me normally except, I live in a FLAT, clear cut, cookie cutter home neighborhood that has no back stop or trees to keep that bullet from entering my home. Further more, after having 3 drug dealers in 3 separate houses that are within 5 houses of my own (one was next door for a while) I'm tired of calling the non-emergency line to report the activity that happens in broad daylight.

The odds of it just being a casual sighting in or even a "desk pop" are not as likely as it being a drug deal gone wrong.

The neighborhood, before the criminals moved in, was very nice. Run by an HOA & had high home values. Now, the homes are selling for under half of their original costs leaving people like me up the creek without a paddle when it comes to getting the home sold for a decent price.

I am a country girl at heart. Raised in a small Bama town & very much missing the open space. Not to mention the ability to not see your neighbors on a daily basis if you don't want to.

I don't have a good credit score because of stupid mistakes made years ago. Since that time I've matured & have had steady, well paying jobs (2 in the past 8 years) but still trying to build enough credit back for a serious loan.

Working at the airport, I want to be somewhere that I can get to work (on a day with no traffic) in about 45m.

My question, does anyone have any advice on how I can get into a home that is more open, in a place that's safer?
I would love to have enough room to shoot a gun on my own property & even better, would love to be able to hunt on my own land too but for now, I'd settle for just getting away from the crap hole that is my neighborhood.

Thanks

I take it you are renting your current home? If so... get out of Dodge! Life is short. That is no way to live it!

move out of mcdonough and the southside of atlanta in general.

^THIS^ - The Southside is either bad news or just one economic event from collapsing on top of the suburbanites in Peachtree City and Newnan. My wife works ner the airport and we moved from Smyrna out to the Woodstock area and although it's only been a week we love it. Much safer, cleaner, brighter, nicer, friendlier, etc. Not 100% safe, but no where except far off the grid truly is. It's approx. 37-48 mins away most days to and from the airport for her (mind you, she doesn't drive during peak traffic times, that's key). We got a great deal on a great house, more house than we need, but its necessary in order to move where we are (they don't build smaller houses where we moved to, although there are some in other communities nearby). We're considering renting out the basement as it's set up with a bedroom, bath and a couple egresses. Unfortunately I can't hunt from my backyard, although I have deer in it every morning and afternoon. Apparently golfers don't appreciate cross-fire. Although I did look at houses that backed up to Army Corp Engineer land and one piece backed up to Lake Altoona Managed Hunting Area (which is only minutes away). So there are some options...but getting into the mountains and being 45 mins away from the airport would require you to fly to the airport almost.

As for bad credit and buying a house...unless you can put 10% - 20%, don't even think of applying with bad credit. Hell, even with average to good credit you typically need 10% down. We were fortunate and made good choices and were able to land a 5% loan, so they're out there, just tough to get.

Good luck!

Senoia/Peachtree city area is good.the plague won't hit there for a long time.our office just relocated to mcdonough, what a shi# hole! the plague has all ready spread through lovejoy/riverdale,and has just about turned north fayette county into a getto.stockbridge, dekalb county, mcdonough all have been swallowed up in the crap.the whole south side is slowly turning into a flithy, nasty, gutter rat puss infested boil .
the only problem with senoia would be traveling to and from the airport.you would have to travel through the garbage to get there.from central fayette county all the way to the airport is a third world country.

I'd love to but what areas are safer that maintain a somewhat close distance to the airport?
50 miniutes via 278 and camp creek pkwy from Dallas and Rockmart area.....This is gods country out here....Plus they are about to open up Paulding Northwest airport to commercial and passenger traffic. Maybe a future for you out this way...

You renting or do you own your current home?
If your renting
Just move Soon
Worry about the credit score later

I'm not renting but I don't have the deed in my name either. It's actually early inheritance from my parents but they're much slower to sign over the deed than they would be if they lived in the neighborhood too. I won't blame them though. I don't even consider it being in my pocket as collateral until they sign papers so that no one ends up with hurt feelings or feels pushed to do something they're not ready to.
I've been left in charge of the home though so I could sell it for them, but they don't know ( & I don't either for that matter) how we could avoid the "Gift" taxes if they simply gave me the sum of the profits from selling the home.

I've been to Dallas a few times. Beautiful land up there. It's certainly in the top 3 counties I'd think about moving to if the price/land was right :)

First off you live and work near Atlanta. You can run but you can't hide. Now with that said and understood...

I grew up in Clayton County and work at the airport as well. You may have to sacrifice your commute a little more to truly get what you are looking for. I know Atlanta and its surrounding communities quite well and imo there are only two areas I would consider going from what you have stated. North or West.

North (above Woodstock. Cherokee or Pickens County)
North West (above Acworth. Into Bartow County)
West (beyond Villa Rica and preferably north of I-20. ie...Haralson County)

Best of luck to you.

Douglas and/or Carroll County. Hwy 166 to Capps Ferry to South Fulton Parkway. You can travel from the Roundabout at Carroll/Douglas County line,( GA5 and GA166), to 285 at South Fulton Pkwy in 25 minutes.

Look at areas west of the Roundabout on both 5 and 166.

Don't worry Newnan and peachtree city are both fine . You will not live in Peachtree city and shoot .Consider getting a security camera with a good picture. I have a friend in Ellenwood with this problem , His solution has been to provide videos of drug deals to the cops . It has helped a lot.
