How far do you Load up your AR Mags?

Depends on the mag, spring and follower. The only way to know for sure to fire the weapon and find out. You need to do that anyway to learn your weapon.

I did 3 deployments and always topped off mags as well as all my soldiers. Army infantry. Never had any issues. Ever

I do 28 just to ensure fully seating the mag on a closed bolt. It doesn't have anything to do with mag reliability.
