Forget about 1911s and Aks. After 5 years you will get sick of them. 1911 because they are unreliable and AK because they are boring.
Where do you guys get these unreliable 1911s? My Gubmint model I've had 50 years, my Commander 40 years, and my Star PD 20. I cannot remember a failure of any type when I was running them (other than an older box of aluminum case Blazers that all had dead primers). Only fails are when another shooter wants to try one and limp wrists it. If I could only have one pistol it would be my WW2 surplus Colt 1911A1.

Colt MK 4 Government model I had was shyt. I have owned a lot of 1911s and I am the type that if one fails I give up on them all. Also had a Springfield that was shyte.

I do love me some milsurp 1911's but if I could only have one gun it would be something a little more practical, maybe a Sig 1911

Re 1911s: Had an original 1918 Colt 1911 that just needed the extractor tuned, but at the time it was only 97 years old.

Re Calibers: I've tried to whittle them down myself since I like to reload what I can. If nothing else, I try to keep the rifles in the .30 caliber area.

well, it's not exactly mil-spec anymore. When I got it the front sight was missing and it had a great front strap stippling. Had the sights replaced with white dot targets, barrel throated, feed ramp polished, barrel hood welded and fitted, magwell beveled. Work done in the 70's, still got less than $300 in it total. But it's ultra-reliable, will feed anything, even empty cases.
