How many kWh do you use in the summer?

And what is the square footage of your house?
Who is your electric company?

Seems like every summer Georgia Power increases their rates. This month’s bill is just a few dollars short of $600 for a 1500 sq. ft. house. We had our AC serviced and recharged, loose fill insulation installed in the attic. All to try and combat these wildly inappropriate power bills. Our AC runs at max 5 hours a day and we’ve resorted to 80 degrees and the bill just goes higher and higher. I shouldn’t be paying $600 to live like I’m in a ******* terrarium.

Have no choice because Georgia Power is the monopoly in the area.

After complaining to the Public Service Commision I’m now seeing the line items that on top of their per kWh charge, there’s an additional daily charge, fuel charge and apparently I’m paying per kWh to build their nuclear plant? If those ****ing charges were removed, my bill would be around $250. THEY HIDE THESE LINE ITEMS ON YOUR BILL BY DEFAULT. You literally have to complain to have them reveal what they are actually charging you for.

This is just me ranting, because although we can afford $600 per month, we definitely don’t want to be paying for fuel? and to build a nuclear facility? to a company that I’m sure has record profits and will never pass the savings on to its customers once these facilities go online.

**** Georgia Power and **** their stupid commercials that say “we are working hard to bring clean AFFORDABLE energy to Georgia.” Straight up lies.

Wow! My place is just shy of 1500 sq feet. My last bill, the highest of the year so far was $206. I work from home and the AC runs 24/7. Jackson EMC is the provider. I used 1575 KWh.

had to ask the wife...

2523 KWH and it was 329.82 for the bill that's due

the one before that was 1660 KWH and 230.52

Flint EMC

We keep the 2K sq/ft downstairs on 70 when we're there, 72 when we leave for work in the am.

Upstairs 400 sq/ft stays on 75 year round.

I'll also say that my house is 4 sided brick and faces north. One window faces east and 2 windows face west. I have told my wife when we buy again or build, I have a STRONG preference for a north/south facing house.
2682 kWH's

I used 1105kwh from 6/2-7/3.

My bill was $157. $25 for a service charge and $7 or a street light.

Single story 1200sqft brick ranch built in 1978
AC set at 68 degrees all day everyday with a 10 year old ac system and original single pane windows.

Greystone is my power company

GA Power, 2600 sq feet, 2004 construction, $272 last month all fees, taxes, etc.

If OP is getting a $600 bill for 1500 sq/ft, there is something seriously wrong...

My house was built in 1988. 2013 I replaced the single plane windows with thermopane, replaced the crap masonite siding with hardy plank, and the outside layer of insulation. That alone made a huge difference with the utility bills. 2020-24 both furnaces and one ac unit were replaced making another huge difference in my utilities.

I'm on Coastal EMC. Last month was just over 3k KWH. Bill is $417. I have 2700 sq ft with 2 A/C units and a well. I have a window a/c in one of my shops and I just put a mini split in the other shop. I'm going to replace the window unit in the shop later this year. The mini split is way more efficient.

I will when I get home .
