How many kWh do you use in the summer?

2000 sq ft split level with little shade. House built in 2002 with basic insulation and 1 unit that is as old as the house. Keep it set around 75 with fans in everyroom. Draw last month was 2100kwh with the air running around 12 hours a day and our bill was 447. GA power is our provider in Rome, GA. Bill usually goes down dramatically in September through May.

So you cut it off for 12 hrs a day?

No it finally hits 75 for half the day, usually at night. At least thats according to our Nest daily usage report.

Sunday was 14.25 hours (12pm to 11PM was on constant)
Saturday was 9.75 hours
Friday was 11.25 hours
Thursday was 13.25 hours

4PM to midnight is our worst time, but thats when the house is also getting full sun.

I would imagine if you seperate and have 2 AC units upstairs and downstairs, you would see a significant change in your bill.

Probably, but another unit is not in the cards right now. Once Sept-Oct hit the bill goes down to around 100.00 a month, its only this high from May-August. We also don't use the downstairs that often since all the usuable bedrooms are upstairs. Kids watch TV downstairs and my oldest uses that as his bathroom. We close all the vents down there and with fans its not that bad really. We need to upgrade our current unit to something more effecient, and one day we will, or be forced to.

That evening sun is brutal my friend. It will heat up a bedroom making it a nightmare to sleep.

2023 July - Peachtree Corners, 30+ year old house ~3000 SF upper floors at ~78F 24/7. basement AC mostly off
2319kWh $427 or $.18 per kWh including taxes, etc. GA Power.

2024 July - Ellijay, new construction 1490 SF main floor at 75F 24/7, 1490 basement AC off (stays at 73 w/o), plus workshop with lights and minisplit that runs when I'm puttering in the workshop.
1212 kWh $183 or $.15 per kWh including taxes, etc. Amicalola EMC.

So seems Amicalola is a tad cheaper than GA Power (per kWh) for the same month.

Mar and Apr usage in new house were under 500 kWh per month when not running heat or AC.
