How much ammo?

1000 for rifle, 500 for handgun, and a few thousand 22lr put aside for a SHTF situation. Always nice to have more on hand though

This seems like a good rule of thumb. Plus 250 for each shotgun gauge you have.
And of course, more's always better than less.

Those are my minimum numbers since my broke ass can't always have large stashes of ammo if in shooting alot. I will stop shooting if I hit those numbers on the guns i use for a SHTF situation
 
For home base I would say more than you could imagine shooting

To carry in a bug out situation I would say not nearly as much, and maybe focus more on loaded mags, and then some reserve but more for hunting than self defense.

Pretty sure if you had to fend off hostiles you'd rather do it from far away with a .22 and a scope rather than carry a bunch of large caliber ammo instead of food and supplies. 22 is small and you can carry a lot more of it.
