How to get involved with competition shooting?

Not just for hand guns anymore. The pistol caliber carbine division is one of the faster growing divisions in USPSA. Im sure IDPA will follow suite.

Thanks guys. And I am mostly interested in rifle and handguns. I know there is alot of forms of this sport but alittle action paced is what I am looking for.

Sounds like USPSA or IDPA if probably what you are looking for then, although the '2-gun' matches Megawolf mentioned might be a good fit for you as well.

And as @Dirty J mentioned, USPSA also allows pistol caliber carbines now, so that might fit the 'rifle' side of things you are looking for as well.

I am largely a 2 Gun guy. I do some carbine matches and some pistol but 2 Gun is my main squeeze. Atlanta 3 Gun was doing a monthly 2 Gun every second Saturday at South River Gun Club, but due to accommodating some pistol guys from another range it has now been combined with the monthly Carbine shoot.

Go to Practice Score .com and look up shoots by Strategic Match Design. That is Rob Romero from A3G and it will let you know the Carbine/2 Gun date each month for now.

Make sure you have a good belt that can accommodate holster, pistol, and at least one rifle mag and you should be ready to get started .No problem.

If you want to move around while shooting you'll most likely end up in USPSA. Divisions to accommodate just about any gun you own. Between indoor and outdoor matches you can shoot almost any day of the week in Georgia. River Bend Gun Club runs probably the biggest outdoor level 1 USPSA matches in the state and probably the Southeast.

I just got home from Camp Perry, OH, I participated in the 2018 CMP National Trophy Rifle Matches.
Military and Civilians participate on a level playing field. Wood Gun National Matches still going on.

I made the top 100 in the "Presidents 100" match for the second year in a row and was awarded my "Distinguished Rifleman's" Badge at the awards ceremony. These are two highly sought-after awards in service rifle.
The Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) took home most of the top prices, as they should, they practice year round just for this week.
It's a honor to shoot on the same range with the AMU, the Marines, Army Reserve Team, Army ALL Guard Team, Navy Team, USAF Team, USCG Team and the top civilian shooters in the county.

For USPSA shooting in Georgia, www.georgiaipsc.com is pretty much "one-stop shopping".

I don't know where the OP works (I saw that he lives in Jackson), but some of the indoor USPSA matches may be available on the way home from work.

We shoot on Tuesday nights at Autrey's Armory in Fayetteville; Gwinnett Practical Shooters is also on Tuesday nights at Georgia Range & Guns in Norcross.

Additionally, the Griffin Gun Club (just west of the Tanger Outlet Mall on 75 South) shoots Steel Challenge the first Friday & Saturday of the month and they shoot USPSA the third Saturday. (My favorite thing about the GGC matches is that it is "in by 0900; out by Noon".
