The thread on hunting with traditional deer rifles got me to thinking. Does anyone else hunt with open sights? I don't have a scope on any of my hunting rigs any more. About 6 or 7 years ago I stripped the scopes off of all my hunting rigs to try and up the challenge of the hunt. I never felt the need to put them back on and have really enjoyed hunting with straight irons. To me, it has made it a bit more fun. I also feel it has improved my shooting skills. Taking squirrels with a .22 and irons is really a lot more fun and more challenging.

Even though I am chronologically experienced, I shoot competition pistol with open sights. I like the challenge and usually fare quite well against the younger competition. I hunt deer with Smith revolvers with open sights as well. I have rifles with optics, too. Just depends on the situation.

We always have an "open sights lever day" at the hunt camp each year, too. It usually lasts for more than one day...!
