I've paid less than $1500 for all my Baers, but that was a while ago now. I vote them. I have one with 100k through it, another with 10k that was EDC for 6 years. Both going strong.

1911 single stack. To be honest though, any modern 1911 should suffice for someone that is not using it competitively. It's not like its a new design, and 1911's are my go to. I have a Metro Arms that will shoot as well as my STI's, Para, Springfield, NH, DW, etc....

In fact - you could build what you want and have the pride that goes along with that.

In your price range for a traditional 1911 I'd go with DW. There are a lot of options depending on what you want from the pistol. If you want a rail then Sig makes some very good 1911's although they aren't the traditional set up. Les B, Wilson Com, Night Hk, Ed Brn and others in that category are going to be 1.5-2x what your budget is but are a notch above.

I have seen some used WC and on here that were in the mid 2K range. May be a deal to be made if you search the site and look for ads where they didn't sell semi recently.
