For years I have wanted a IR for my FAL so I could see the hogs better at night. They have always been so expensive that I gave up on the thought. I just saw that Leupold is now offering a affordable version. Power IR monocular for $699.00 I want to check this out! Thoughts or experience? I wonder if I could mount this in front or behind a EOtech? Has a 30mm tube.

Your effective range on it will probably be about 100 yards, and even then you may have trouble identifying the critter. I saw one video of someone spotting deer at a little over 200 yards, and they were just bouncing dots. Also you won't be able to mount it in front of any type of RDS because the thermal will not transmit through the optic so no way to line up. The sweet spot for the LTO is locating downed game.

There are some good closeouts on Pulsar thermal right now because they're introducing a new line. This is a good 2x handheld monocular that is about twice the cost of the LTO, and it would be much more effective. http://www.hightechredneckincorporated.com/product-p/nvtd500.htm

BC.. would this LTO be suitable as a rifle optic for sniping Beaver out to 50 yards at night ?

No won't work. It doesn't have a reticle, and an RDS won't pass through the thermal for viewing/aiming. It'd should work fine at detecting them at those ranges.

If you want a cheap night vision solution for hunting within 150 yards, the Sightmark Photon XT 4.6 with an Evolva T20 or T38 IR Illuminator will get there for around $500 or less if you find on sale. I set one up for sniping varmints at night, and I liked it so much I moved it to an AK as loaner for hog/yote hunting.
