I am really trying hard not to go out and buy this.

No. M&P c.o.r.e., FNX tactical, sig and Glock MOS guns can still have a rear sight behind the optic. I like having this option because with suppressor height sights you can line them up to help you find the red dot on the optic. If you've never used one of these sights on a pistol it is a lot different than the larger ones on rifles. It can be tough to aquire the dot sometimes when moving and in different positions.

Yeah but each one of these has those really fugly looking high post iron sights, and I thought the idea of a red dot was NOT to have posts obstructing the view, or worrying about lining them up. The size of a high post wouldnt be my first choice I was looking for a carry weapon, which with walther looks like it could almost be. I agree about learning to use the dot, tried one out this weekend on an MPA and had some issues finding the dot initially.

If it feels good in the hands and shoots good then that all I am concerned with. Since it's a competition gun it would be for range play only. River Bend Gun Club has every type of knock down plates you can think of so this gun would be a range toy and that's the extent of it. For those of you think the Glock looks better I personally disagree with extreme prejudice. This gun looks like Glock actually tried to make an attractive gun. Not everyone likes the same thing. That's a fact and can not be argued. I wouldn't be purchasing on looks alone. Like I said multiple times it has to feel good in the hands or it simply won't be purchased. When I purchased my 1911's I was drawn to the look but it wasn't until I picked one up and felt the gun that I made up my mind right then and there it was a gun I was going to own. The same went for the 22 cal pistol my wife wanted so she could shoot. It was the only gun she could rack the slide. It was the Ruger SR22. It felt good in the hands. I will probably compare it to a Ruger 9 mm but the RMR options are another selling point for the Walther.

Looks pretty neat. I would definitely like to try it out.

Are all of the ports functional? If not, meh. I wouldn't want extra points of entry for crap getting into the gun.

Doing my best. Absent the ports, I'd be tempted too.
It's not ported, the cuts just take some weight out of the slide. That way you can use a lighter spring and weaker match ammo and still function/cycle consistently. It's competition gun, not a EDC. Hence the name "Q5 Match"

Back up irons at the very bottom of the window work really well.
They're totally not part of your sight picture when using the dot, but they are there if you ever needed them. This way they don't obstruct the view and you don't have to line them up, unless you need them.
It's nice to backup an RMR with irons, especially if you use it in competition.....

They also said the cuts were to help offset the weight of the RMR. Either way it lightens the slide.

I went to the Walther website and looked at gun with the plate with the rear sights. It looks good with the sights on it. Still a nice looking gun even with the rear sight in place. I can't wait to get my hands on one. It won't be this weekend. Family issues are impairing my trip to the gun store. I will probably get to one at the first of next week.I sure do hope it feels good. Gun and Ammo write up said it was ergonomically pleasant to handle so we will see. I love the look of it. It's got that racy, aggressive profile. I like that. That's exactly why the AR15 is so popular. It just looks bad ass.

Yea I would say the ar15 is popular because of its 50+ years of service in the greatest military in the world as well as its modularity and abundance of parts. I wouldnt exactly say an ar in and of itself is "racy" but to each his own. Looks are very low on the list when I am purchasing a firearm unless it is a collectible.
