I got 2 new Saltwater poles for my Birthday. One Is a surf caster and the other is more for pier fishing. Any recommendations on hooks / weights / set ups. I usually fish for smaller fish whiting, reds, trout, etc down in St Simons or Amelia Island. Since I got these rods I can up the size of the fish. let me know your rig set up!

What type of poles did you get? Spinning or baitcaster? They should be rated for a certain casting weight too. I have both setups for saltwater, some spinning setups for surf and flats, and some baitcasters for heavier stuff. I try to fish St. George Island (Apalachiacola Bay) at least once a year.

Congrats on a great present!
I like to use a carolina rig on a slip sinker. Sized large enough to withstand the current. This lets the bait wiggle a little about 12" or so off the bottom and the hook often sets itself when they strike

Been fishing around Tybee myself.....are there any good brackish or salt water spots over towards Mobile?

I hate to tell anybody, but 7 1/2 hrs to port st joe is the best of the best, clear water, big trout and flounder, perfect for kyack john,or CC, 2-3 ft tides layed back

I fish those waters alot, we should meet up sometime. I like the flat tear shaped weights,or pyramid shaped ones for surf, the dont roll on the bottom as much. The pyramid ones get hung easier on rocks. Circle weights are great I called the lazy man hooks cuz you don't have to be there to set it right away LOL. I like size 1 kale hooks alot too
