I have the ammo on the shelf, but I won't sell it to you?

What I don't understand is even low volume Hi-power ammo like 300WM, 700 Rem Mag have disappeared from the shelves. I can't imagine shooting a box of 20 in a range session much less 5 boxes, your shoulder will be black and blue for a week.
I have never seen a shortage like this. When 257 Roberts or 25-06 that normally goes for $2.50 a round is sold out, it got weird.

My rifles really like 140 grain Fusions, Hornady American Whitetail, not so much. I understand holding some back for customers, but holding a particular brand back, that's what I dont get. No matter, i was just curious if someone on here might have an idea.

My guess he didn’t want to lose a rifle sale over the customers preference of ammo. His selling one box of ammo and making a couple of bucks isn’t a good incentive for him from a business point of view.

I would suggest you always support your favorite shops with the policies that best suit your needs as a customer.

Yesterday, I hit a few gun stores looking for some ammo and reloading components (if there were any to be had). I stopped in one shop and noticed they had factory 7mm-08 on the shelf behind the counter. When I inquired what kind of 7mm-08 they had, store owner replies, "We have Hornady American Whitetail (20 boxes), Prvi Partizan (30 boxes), and another brand (I had never heard of)." I noticed there were 3 other boxes pushed to the back side of the shelf and asked about them. Shop keeper tells me they are 2 boxes of Fusion 140s and a box of Federal Premium ballistic tips. He said those pushed to the back of the shelf are not for sale unless someone buys a rifle. I asked if he would part with 1 box of Fusions, and he said No.

His shop, his rules I get that, but why couldnt he just hold back some Hornady for his customers who purchased a rifle?

I thought it was kind of strange. Granted, a store owner who doesnt have any ammo to sell when someone purchases a gun, very well might hinder the gun sale, but to hold back specific ammo? I dont get it. Any thoughts???
I have run into several LGS with the same policy

Man to his wife: I’m going out to pick up some ammo

Wife: You say that every time and come home with nothing, why do you bother to go looking?

*Man determined to find some ammo comes home with new gun, and ammo*

Wife: I thought you were getting AMMO

Man: See they would only sell me the ammo IF I bought a gun and even you know how I REALLY needed the ammo

Don’t waste this opportunity guys;)
