OK I know a little bit.

Recently bought a p08 Luger in 9mm and I’m not quite sure what I have and what it’s worth as far is a collectible Luger. It seems to be in really great shape with great original bluing. There’s only 2 wear marks (pictured) on the bluing. It’s a Mauser with the 1939 date on top. I have taken it apart and everything seems to match ( including small parts and magazine) except the safety bar. Last two digits are 98. The barrel, however, doesn’t seem to have the serial number on the bottom??

I hope I get a good deal. It seemed too good to pass up. I’ll post pics in a second.

They aren't as rare as one would think. They are out there and do fetch a sum. If I am not mistaken the one that really get the big bucks are the ones the were stamped with the mark of the Reich or SS. Something to that effect. The mark is on the left side right above a pin on a flat part of the frame. It's the winged Eagle Head SS type mark. If it has that you are in big business. Those are the really sought out ones. Of course the all the year and serial numbers need to be matching.

That's the mark but if I am not mistaken it's on the wrong side. You have to be careful these days of what A holes are doing. Look up ( Nazi Lugers ) on the net and you should be able to find a site that will tell you exactly where to look and what to look for. There are several markings. Another mark is like Girsht or something to that effect. One of my good friends dad owned a true Nazi Luger with papers of the SS soldier and document certification. The SS one's are big deals. I just remember the Eagle stamp and the the other word cause after we saw it he kept calling me that for a while. This was in the late seventies so that's all I can remember. That one has been well kept. I mean they still bring a good buck just being a Luger. Not being a Nazi or SS gun doesn't mean it's one of your grand dad's beat Iver Johnson's. I mean they are worth real good money especially in that condition. As long as that the original finish and it hasn't been re-blued and all that. That takes a substantial amount away from it as it does any antique gun. That is all I know about them just the little I remember from seeing my friends gun. I was obsessed with it. I would just sit and look at for long period of time and kept reading all the documents. There was a brief history of the soldier as well. They had a big glass topped hallway table and all of it was laid out in that.
