I need a safe - and some advise

I need a decent safe. So I have done some research and have come up with a few general requirements: I know I need to buy one that has more capacity than what I actually own. Have been to Tractor Supply and seen the Cannon's and Winchesters. Been to Cabela's and Hi Caliber. Now its time to make a decision.

I want something in the 40-50 gun capacity. I can't spend more than $1500. I am looking at the Liberty fatboy Jr, and the Champion Medalist 41. They seem very close in specs.

Any advise? What safe should I buy?

I'm pretty sure most of the Cabela's safes are made by Liberty, also Gander Mountain sells Liberty sometimes at huge discounts. (I've seen FB jr's with e-locks go out the door in the $1100 range)

You can also give Matt @TheSafeGuy a shot, if he is heading out this way for anything he is extremely competitive and has a huge selection of Liberty.

Although somewhat similar in quality, I personally feel Liberty's fit and finish has it all over Champion.... and customer service, night & day. *Champion may have made some changes but in the past I have heard stories about customers waiting months for warranty work. (One customer said he was locked out of his safe for 45 days!)

I have been in the safe/vault/safe deposit business (Open-Service-Repair) for 40+ years, warrantee and service for all safe companies in the US and work with many locksmiths. I believe that Liberty sells more safes than anyone in the USA. Champion is run by past liberty people. Winchester brand is actually made by Granite Safe Co. in Texas as Remington brand is made by Liberty. Most safe companies use China for many their low-end safes. You must remember: If you aren't paying much---you're not getting much. What you are actually paying for is hidden as it is the security of/in the container. Cannon makes a good product, so does American Security (Amsec). A Rino Safe is impressive (I've seen the bolt works/security) With a $1500.00 limit you can certainly buy a pretty good safe, but a $2500+ limit will buy you a great safe. I hope this helps you on your decision. Larry Burdge c/o J&L Enterprises,, Baldwin, GA. 706-768-3112/706-886-0221

I bought my cannon 64 gun safe at tractor supply last Black Friday. It was originally listed for 1100 if I remember right but on the Black Friday deal I got it for some where around 750 out the door. So far it has been an amazing safe. The digital pad has been a good one and every thing works just like the day I bought it.
