i should be angry but i'm laughing

he said that all the commercials and the pamphlets sold him on buying bose. this is the same guy who doesn't wear brand name shoes cuz he says the name doesn't mean quality

My budget 5.1 surround sound system consisted of a pioneer receiver, pioneer speakers and a klipsch (spelling?) subwoofer. I got it all for around $900 and I think it sounds pretty dang good, although if I could do it over I would instead opt for 2 speakers and a sub and get a little higher quality equipment.

I love the way it sounds but I don't use surround sound for movies as much as I thought I would and I'm much more of a music guy anyway.

I dont know about bose home systems but i got a set of quiet comfort 15 for 5 bucks at a pawn shop and they blow beats out of the water. The electronic noise canceling is great. The guy at the pawn shop thought they were broke they take a triple A battery for the noise canceling.

pioneer has always made quality stuff for a good price. their car audio stuff is awesome. the first company to come out w/a 30k watt amp. my home theater set up is pretty intense. 4 polk book shelf speakers. 1 polk center channel, 2 monstrous yamaha floor standing, 1 velodyne 12 inch sub, 1 polk 12 inch sub, all hooked up to a sony media super house. i switched from a pioneer unit to the sony cuz the pioneer had 2 fewer hdmi inputs

that's another brand that pisses me off is the beats by dre. such junk. bought some in ear buds hoping for some good bass response, they didn't beat worth a squat. ended up getting the velodyne vpulse like i should have to begin with

Yeah, it was after much researching that I settled on some of the Pioneer Andrew Jones stuff. Your set up sounds pretty legit. Some day I'm gonna upgrade my stuff, but I'm gonna go big next time so I'm gonna have to save up for awhile. Plus I might as well wait until I move into a house so my neighbors at my apartment don't hate me :D

I also agree with you about beats by Dr. Dre. I think they spent too much in their marketing department and not enough in their R&D. I saw some ipod dock station at the AT&T store for like $400 or something outrageous. Geeze! No way it sounds that good. I bet they're making a killing selling them though

Just about any system with a decent sub woofer will be fine for surround sound. The dynamics just aren't that important for most of our rooms. If you have a dedicated theater room it will be more important to choose top line equipment but for most of our living rooms it just doesn't matter that much.

It is when you get into 2 channel audio that the differences really play out. There are a lot of BOSE haters out there but they really aren't that bad. They are not that great either. They are tuned to what most listeners want to hear and they reproduce sound fairly well. Those of you who hate BOSE have likely not ever owned any for yourself and if you did and still hate them then they just eren't for you.

Before some of you jump on me and say that I don't know what quality is I will tell you that I have owned some very expensive (15K) 2 channel setups with turntable that cost more than the BOSE system mentioned here. If we really get down to the nitty gritty, none of your Onkyo or Def Techs can be considered great audio systems. ook into NAD with PSB speakers and a nice Rega or Clear Audio turntable and then you can talk!
