My union helps me have a better environment to work in. Got rid of faulty safety equipment that we had, prevented an outside Chief with a horrible reputation from getting the job, and helped get us a bonus check for the first time in I don't know how long.

And I am backed by an Attorney if I ever need it for work related issues.

So my dues don't solely go to Political backing. Not what its about for me.

It's OK to financially support Dems as long as you get access to an employment attorney in the unlikely event you get fired?

I have had union guys work for me.

One we hired as a sub in the month of August and asked "will this job last through Christmas?". My brother's response was priceless. "Christmas?! Are you f-ing kidding me? I hope this job doesn't last until Thursday." He and his apprentice were slow; damn slow. I worked circles around them solo. I asked him what did he do everyday when he was in NY. He said "We got to the job at 7 before anyone else, found the dirtiest piece of **** we could find, smear it all over my uniform and drink coffee until lunch. When the bosses show up see us covered in grease and smoking, they assume were are on a break. We looked like we had been working. Then we went to a bar for lunch from 11-1."

I have seen union guys brag about double dipping. They were working side jobs while they were being paid to be in reserve or whatever the contract calls it. On the other side of the coin I know guys who told me they were yelled at for outworking everyone else.

I believe in free markets. employees should have the right to organize but companies should have the right to wholesale fire those who walk out. Employees should have the right to decide whether or not to join; not an issue here but a huge one in places like MI.

Speaking of MI, the UAW killed Detroit. Why would any automaker open a shop in MI?

For the most part I reject all of Karl Marx's beliefs.

Please tell us way you continue to crap on someone's thread? The OP started it just to find out if any ODTers were members of the IBEW LU 613...

Sorry to burst post but I just got off a 17 hour day and get to do it again tomorrow.

I hear ya! I remember those days. Now I just work 10-12 hours a day with a 2 hour commute each way. My wife's cousin owns Solid Rock Granite Interiors in Elberton and he leaves for work before 7 am and gets home between 10:30-11:30 pm everyday. I have no interest in owning my own business.

BTW: they do great work with granite and do service in Al, Ga, SC and NC. They have a website so check'em out if you need new countertops

Hahaha this is getting good. All those haters of unions out there, that's dont support them while they drink a pbr beer or eat some nabisco cookies gotta realize "union made". And a whole lot of other things. I am not giving an opinion on my stance for unions or against them. Just trying to give perspective. You can say that you are completely against or for unions but no one I know can live that claim. At the end of the day if you can look into a mirror as a man and provide for your family, union or not, I take my hat off to you. But, for all you naysayers and hater out there, **** you.

so do union execs do the same job as the union members?

So much hostility! Raise a beer and be glad you have a job! :)

Can't argue with that, except I don't buy beer so someone will need to pass me one and then I can raise it.
Darn glad to have my Georgia job so I could move back. It's a 2 hr drive from my house in Elberton to Buford and I took a $27,000/year pay cut just to be able to stay in same house with my wife all week long. Then she got transferred 6 weeks later and She leaves to work above Charleston SC, 3 days a week. Yep the job situation is bleak these days, so we are darn glad to have the jobs.
