ID this snake?

I thought it might be a banded water snake since we live near a marsh and I've heard they can be ill tempered.

All the water snakes have bad attitudes and pretty big teeth. That being said, the first big wild snake I handled was a water snake.

It appears to have been a Red Bellied watersnake.

Really, guys - time to do just the smallest bit of learning: http://srelherp.uga.edu/snakes/

Only have to learn 6 of them. Right at the bottom.

Agreed...With ALL of it. They're not usually aggressive, except when they're pregnant.....

At least, that's my experience with them at my pond...

King snakes are usually not aggressive, unless they're pregnant...which would make them a Queen snake I guess...That snake in the pic is actually flat dark brown, or NEAR black with a vivid orange belly. I've got some awesome videos on my phone, If I could figure out how to host/post them I can show you 4 of them hauling snake ass when uncovered....
