my grandfather has a 30 carbine and i am not a rife guy, i only do pistols and shotguns. what brand, and type is it?

Looks like an M1 carbine that is missing the top handguard...as to what it's worth? Could be anywhere from $300-$3000 (kidding) depending on who made it, what year it is, matching parts, etc.

it says natl oro inc on the top behind the rear sight

on the the bottom of the front it says em-q

he says its vietnam war era

yes it said natl ord inc and its serial number is in the upper 12000's example 127xx

sorry to tell you but National Ordinance are known as poor quality knockoffs of original M1's
