If you could have 1 or 2 long guns if the SHTF which would they be and why?

Even if the "SHTF" caused by things that don't exist most of you will be hiding in a hole watching your weapons rust because everyone wanted a black weapon or blued steel "tactical" weapon and forgot to buy oil and a cleaning kit. I don't know about y'all, but an AR is about the last gun I'd want in a SHTF scenario. If I wanted something in 5.56, I'd make it a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle. But I'm with CCW on this one. AK and a 22. Preferably a 10/22.

Why? I can think of no situation where a mini 14 would be a better choice than an AR.

Not pissed at all. I am curious what your 2 choices would be. I am on a limited Rifle budget and if I am going to spend the funds for 1 or 2 additional long guns I want to be sure they are wise choices. I am not worried about Zombies or a Foreign army, more an EMP, destruction of the internet, the power grid being taken down, food shortages due to bio hazards sprayed, looting, survival of the fittest type stuff. Still a stretch but to me this is more likely than a Zombie.

I don't know, this is why I asked. I've had many handguns but have never been into rifles until recently. It took me a year to figure out which handguns I am good with and I don't want to take another year deciding on a couple rifles. Rather ask, purchase, practice and stockpile ammo.

Remington 700 police or SPS tactical in 308 or my Larue OBR in 308 and my G19.
The 308s are standoff guns and the G19 is for close in.

You said you already have an AR and a 22. So spend the extra funds on ammo for those 2 and you should be in fine shape. Lets face it, if we are faced with an EMP or other life changing event. Just being armed and knowing how to use it will put you way ahead of the game. The AR and 22 will be more than adiquit to defend your little corner of the world and provide game for the dinner table. I think you already have the 2 rifles you need............ now when it comes to need vs "wants" ... thats a whole nuther thing.
