If you could have 1 or 2 long guns if the SHTF which would they be and why?

Why? I can think of no situation where a mini 14 would be a better choice than an AR.

You've got all you need in the .22 and AR. If you want a little more reliability you could trade up to a gas piston AR like a sig 556 or something similar. You don't need a "standoff" weapon for SHTF because you won't want to engage targets that far out, as that will do nothing but highlight your position. A .223 will takedown any game animal in GA. If you want to get an AK, by all means but it's not better than an AR, it's just different.

Actually I'm thinking of a Ciener .22 conversion kit for the AR. Wish I had that option for my AK. Then I could sell the Ruger 10 22 in the closet AND the AR7 in the BoB.

I love my ciener kit and ended up building a dedicated gun around it. I like that I can still shoot 5.56 out of if for some reason.

I'd have my 12 ga and 308. Shotgun to get food and deal with anything that may arise within 50-75 yards and the 308 for everything else.

And I know you asked about long guns but I'd also have two pistols with my my Ruger SR22 and my larger 9mm.

You said you already have an AR and a 22. So spend the extra funds on ammo for those 2 and you should be in fine shape. Lets face it, if we are faced with an EMP or other life changing event. Just being armed and knowing how to use it will put you way ahead of the game. The AR and 22 will be more than adiquit to defend your little corner of the world and provide game for the dinner table. I think you already have the 2 rifles you need............ now when it comes to need vs "wants" ... thats a whole nuther thing.

I'd rather be hiding somewhere that I have to reach out and touch appropriate approaching threats/targets at distance when the SHTF than in the thick of it. Evade, escape then defend.

I'd have 1xAR with a 5.56, a 7.62x39, a 5.45x39 and a 458 socom uppers so that I could shoot whatever nato or commie ammo I scavenge (still just one firearm :P) and either 1xREPR/MK110 or a 338 lapua bolt action rifle ... and there was no limit on handguns so I'd have 6-8 dozen of those in 9mm, .45 and .22lr

No, not in SHTF. x51 is for sport shooting or removing targets at long distances. Neither of will be crucial in SHTF.

Unfortunately my little corner is in the middle of Atlanta so chances I'll live long enough to run out of food are dependent on staying alive. Given only 2 rifles I'd go with two AK74's. 5.45 x 39 is a light round to carry, cheap, with low recoil for the wife and teens and very effective. I should get one for each member of the family.
