Or you could not approach a car with an armed murderer inside. That's never going to turn out well. This guy wasn't even carrying. He had to go to his car first to get his gun. Then walk over to the other guys car and try to confront him. It's ok to be a nice guy but a little bit of thinking or training would have saved his lifeYou generally can't shoot a fleeing felon.
Is there an exception for shooting a still-armed shooter (murderer?) who just shot (and killed?) a woman in public? Even when you saw the whole thing happen firsthand? Maybe not!
Does it depend what the guy does next? I think so.
If he takes his gun in his hand and heads over to a crowd of people, it's 100% green light to shoot him. In the back, even. No warning.
If he tucks his gun in his waistband and gets in his car to leave.... probably NOT O.K. to shoot him at that second.
You could try a citizen's arrest first, and then shoot him when he offers armed resistance to your attempted arrest.
Usually the woman being abused attacks the "hero" for attempting to help.
I would advise never to pull your weapon unless you're ready to shoot, and you better have good reason.
This was stupid and it cost him. He was probably a good guy too, but he definitely made a stupid mistake.
Hail naw, mane. I got my permit what four I can choot inknee-body I whant too iffn' they doin' sumthin' I ain't care fer. 'Specially iffn' they brown or don't look like me an got them shiffty lil' eyes. Rather bee judged by 12 than carried by six, no what I meen? Yeah come on!OP, your understanding of the use of deadly force in defense of self and others appears to be lacking.
Let this also be a lesson to all the folks who comment about the gun handling of cops at close range, as if that means they'd be equal or better. Police work is 95% decision-making, 4% luck and 1%, if that, gun handling skills. Usually the disconnect is in the decision-making.
If you read the article it states the domestic dispute shooter had already fired his gun twice and hit the woman once when he attempted to leave in his vehicle. The guy who was killed pulled his gun to keep the bad guy from leaving. In this situation the guy should have killed him in his vehicle.
‘He thought he could help’: Concealed carry gun-wielder intervenes in domestic dispute and is shot dead
