Our washing machine has had a mildew smell for a while now. It's probably about 10 years old, works perfectly and looks good (on the outside).
Finally took it apart today to deep clean.
Took about two hours start to finish. Had to clean the tub part in place but the rest got pressure washed.
Absolutely disgusting but well worth it.

I had to put a new seal, bearings and shaft in mine in the summer and the cleaning took longer than the maintenance.

Our washing machine has a special cleaning cycle that requires little tablets run through it every 30 loads.

Same with your dishwasher. The filter basket in the bottom gets pretty nasty if you don’t clean it out.
