The nearly 4-minute video, posted on YouTube and viewed a half-million times, shows a police standoff at 137th St. and Jefferson Ave. in the California city. The dog’s owner, later identified as Leon Rosby, 52, appears on screen, walking his large black and tan canine. Rosby himself pulls out a cellphone and starts filming the police operation while intermittently yelling at the officers on scene. Rosby later said he was worried about civil rights violations.

Police booked Rosby on an interfering with officers charge. It’s not his first run-in with the department, Rosby told KCAL-TV. He has six complaints against the department, including a lawsuit claiming officers broke his rib during an arrest.

This guy wasn't just filming....It's 100% his fault the dog died

1st... that stupid POS hood rat, son of a whore... Is a F'ing Idiot... 2nd my question to the fat ass cop... You ever hear of pepper spray??? 3rd that dep. should thank its luck stars it wasnt MY DOG... (not that I'd ever put my dog's in that postion, but if a cop decides it needs to shoot my dog for the most minor reason. there will be hell to pay.)

Putting ourselves in the officers shoes, what could they have done? Approach a vehicle with a possibly vicious dog in it, open the door, find the keys, partially roll up the windows, leave him inside? That sounds like a bad idea. Allow a subject, who has not complied with requests to leave but continued to be confrontational, to approach his vehicle, enter it to secure the dog and then return to them? That sounds like a worse idea. I'm not a cop, but there is surely some protocol violated there. Especially in the type of scene they had going on there. Maybe they should have done nothing and allowed the guy to continue yelling at them and being confrontational so that he could draw more attention and possibly more onlookers closer and closer to the other officers engaged in storming the house? Then when outnumbered by an angry mob, they could have used their AR's defending themselves from a crowd of humans? Even if not attacked, they probably would have faced discipline for not securing their perimeter. I think it's a sad story, but the cops were painted into a corner by a guy who acted irresponsibly with his animal. If you're going to tell the cops off, good for you, but put your dog in your car and secure him, or better yet, take him home. Would you take your child into the street to yell at the cops?
I gotta call BS. they told him to put his hands behind his back and he was immediately compliant. They could have had him roll his windows up. ultimately it's the dog owners fault, just can't believe how incredibility ****ing retarded the 2 cops were that they thought that dog was going to let them walk off with his owner.

Watch the video carefully. The dog doesn't really get upset until the guy starts to resist as the officer is spreading his feet to pat him down I am guessing. Had the guy coolly followed instruction, the dog may not have jumped from the car. I appreciate your opinion, but the owner bears the responsibility of controlling his animal at all times. If that means not resisting to avoid triggering the dogs protective instinct, so be it. If the dog would've attacked with just the officers talking to and touching him, that is a dangerous dog that shouldn't be in public period.

Protecting and serving at its finest! How about a wrongful arrest lawsuit! Would have never happened had they not arrested him for a completely legal act! Anyone can film public property.... Id frame both of those pigs ****ing badges after i got them fired and sue the **** out of them and county they were "protecting". Id give it some time, let those rat bastards really sit thru all the bull**** and such but After it was all said and done I may or may not have 2 1st deg murder charges as well to top off that sundae. Mess with my pups, you cross a line

All of this bull**** is simply invalid in argument. They had no reason to detain him... Recording the "public" is 100% legal.

:tsk:

Again, there were numerous other people filming in plain sight. The arrest was not for filming the cops...

Please tell me what the arrest was for then....? He can video anything in the public that he wishes. He can say anything that he wishes; given the right of freedom of speech. So, what actual law was broken here on the citizens part???
