I can't believe, with all the lawyers on here, we don't have an ODT law office. I'd have put 2 more rounds into the dog if I were the cop just to make sure it couldn't bite me! Not one of the people here commenting on "What they'd do" was there or knows the whole story. This is the same way the RK crap started.

Some of the extreme statements that have been posted in this thread completely support the liberal argument that "gun owners" and "gun enthusiast" are extremist and aren’t mentally mature enough to responsibly own a tricycle, let alone a firearm.

I beg to disagree, but besides my first post, there were several who axed the question, "what'd this guy do?" "what was he charged with?" And even if'n he was a suspected felon, the whole doggone thing was handled wrong from the outset. About 4000 other options. And ,for the record, I've always been a strict Law & order peep. And for the record, I've kinda been one who'd jump at the first op to condemn a black person even APPEARING to be suspicious; strictly because of the astronomical , out of proportion crime rate amongst them, & incidents like this only add fuel to the fire. HOWEVER, I always do try & see it from both sides, & I pride myself in defending anyone, black, white, polka dot, red or green who is pounced upon by government agents just because they can, or because they cannot take a little ridicule & teasing. Those cops created a huge amount of animosity in that little black neighborhood, which could led to some other LEO getting maimed or killed. And that was one of the least aggressive pits I've seen, especially in "defend & attack" mode. I 'm going to try & find a follow up article on this.

Great day! This article has pages of posts all over this net! It seems that guy was playing his radio real loud, although it was barely audible in the tape. HE WAS ASKED TO TURN IT DOWN & DID NOT COMPLY! http://wtvr.com/2013/07/03/police-kill-dog/ No one at the Hawthorne Police Department would talk on camera about the incident, but in a written statement said quote “the dog lunged and made aggressive movements towards the officer. Fearing that the attacking rottweiler would imminently bite the officers, one officer fired his duty weapon several times, striking and killing the dog.”
The police statement made no mention of Rosby’s lawsuit. It did say he was arrested for obstruction of justice because he was playing loud music, walking a large dog and getting too close to officers.
The statement said all of that in its entirety distracted officers from their dangerous work.
http://wtvr.com/2013/07/03/police-kill-dog/ And it still could have been handled very differently, more effectively without all the trouble, and maybe make a little inroads into racial harmony between PD & folks. One more time ex LE folks ( old school folks , like myself) agree. And hey, Leatherhead, if'n you'll read past "axed" you'll see a little further into what I think & feel.
I also use a LOT OF SLANG & COLLOQUIAL LANGUAGE , IN THE FASHION OF DAY TO DAY SPEECH OF ALL KIND OF FOLKS: "iF'N" ; "KINDA" ; "AXED" ; "DOGGONE"; hECKFIRE";
ENTERTAINING AS WELL AS NOT BORING & FROM THE MOUTHS OF ALL KINDS, CREEDS & COLORS. :)
Oh, but I did miss-id the dog as a pit---was a young Rotty....................
