Hell I was wearing a Ruger LCR 357 last year turkey hunting at Pine log WMA and the clip holding it on my belt was slightly bent and it came off. Anyways I got to the house before I realized I had dropped it. To make it worse it was in a brown leather holster that blended in perfectly with the leaves. After a mile long track back through the woods I found it on the side of the hill I had been hunting about half way down, I got a new clip that night ordered. Sometimes crap just happens.

I hid a gun one time at my moms never ever found it either

I once had a gun "go missing" for weeks. I figured it was either stolen or I literally left it somewhere-- just sitting at the range or on the back of a toilet at a men's room or something.
After 2 weeks, I reported it "missing" to the local cops. Not "stolen" but simply missing.
They'd never had a report of a "missing" gun either. They weren't sure how to process that information.

3 weeks after the gun was last used, at a shooting range, I found it. In my school bookbag. In a side pocket behind a Ti-82 scientific calculator. I had checked my normal range bag, of course. Dumped it out on the floor and went through every pocket and pouch on it.
But I forgot that for this range trip, I needed two bags so I took my college stuff out of the book backpack and used it for a supplemental range bag.
And even though I had been using the bag, daily, for school, I had not gone into that one zippered pocket on the side.

So I had to call the P.D. back and amend my earlier report. Yeah, that was rather embarrassing.

My wife "lost" a gun. Well at least I thought she did. Turned out her keltec was inside the seat of my truck. I didn't find it till I replaced the seats with leather months later. When I say inside , I mean literally inside. Not in the pocket, it was in the seat. Wedged from underneath. I never figured out how it got jammed in there.

I hope this is the case and you get your gun back, or at least the possible thieves are caught and fired or prosecuted. Lord knows you've caught more than enough grief from the armchair commandos, who probably haven't critically evaluated their own weapon security procedures thoroughly enough to evaluate how many times they are lucky enough NOT to have been victimized.

You, sir, are squared away. I'm just lucky if I'm wearing pants when I walk out the door. Might explain why I am now statutorily prohibited from living within a thousand feet of a church or school...

Its amazing that even if you leave chump change in the cup holder it will not count out the same when you pick it up ...Your thinking should always be " it's Not that I don't trust you ...It's just I don't know you" ....Golden rule when dealing with "Strangers"...It's reality ! Being naive and trusting will cost you in the end sad to say .

If ever I could explain this mindset to my wife, "Oh, you are just being paranoid" is the typical response. As to OP, I feel for you. Also don't agree with twisting the knife. You reached out on ODT and some of the comments should have been better left unsaid. I hope it works out the right way for you. In for updates

Yep, that's why I wear the biggest and heaviest revolver cause when that baby falls, I will know it!! I have a long list of "crap just happens" and after reading some of the comments, for now on i will just say I am a "perfect" responsible gun owner. Just kidding about the biggest heaviest revolver thing.

After working in the service business for the last 25 plus years I can say I have only seen one confirmed employee theft. He got caught and fired. I have seen many accusations to be followed by "I found that item at home" the following day. Where I work at now we have cameras, which helps alot with both customer accusations and employee conduct. I still suggest removing valuables from your vehicle while it's in someone else's care though.
