I'm thinking about making survival a category...

Here is a category - Survival Games

The originator supplies a "What if Scenario". And also supplies certain limits that bound the game and maybe an end goal.

For instance

The What if Scenario: Your at home and electrical power is lost, no internet, no cell service, and cars won't run.

Bounding Restraints: Must use ordinary means of communications, transportation, self defense, etc..

End Goal: Do what needs to be done in the 1st 48 hours to give you and your family the best chance of survival in a worst case long duration grid down event.

OR

The What if Scenario: You are driving late at night on a desolate road and your car breaks and the temperature is 22 deg F

Bounding Restraints: No cell service, no traffic, no seeable houses

End Goal: Survive for 48 hours or until you can get help

I like the title "Preparedness" with subs of the following:

Communications/Energy
Shelter
BOB Vehicles
Food/Water
Security

These sum up what is needed to survive and thrive.

You should look into the game "The Long Dark". It doesn't include the whole family, but it sets the scenario of a bush pilot that crashes in Canada in a very remote region during winter. It simulates a full day/night cycle that also accounts for body temperature, caloric intake, hunger/thirst, fatigue, wind-chill, & wildlife like deer, bears & wolves.

I haven't played the game yet, but from game play videos it shows that you need to keep collecting firewood to ensure the fire doesn't go out while you sleep. Looks to be a very tough game on it's high setting, hunger & exposure can kill you all while trying to forage while trying to evade bears & wolves. Also depending on your fire making materials, it could fail to light and you have to start over again.

Have to start out collecting stones to kill things to eat....tough game.

This is a pretty old thread and we added a survival forum since it was made. Are people suggesting we expand survival into its own category with different sub forums?

Pretty sure people are just reviving an old thread because they are dazed and confused.

I originally thought it was new thread, but after considering it along with others it seems the extra sub forums could create more useful content.
