In his letter, Jordan warns the ATF director to “get ready for a grilling“.

Bring the ATF director up to the capitol for a good old fashioned “grilling”

Sounds encouraging, but Republicans have a history of talking big doing nothing and ****ting on the 2nd. I won't hold my breath.

The GOP won't pass new legislation that rewrites the statutory law in a way that ATF can't get crazy re-interpreting it & filling in vague areas with their own terms.

Congress has no power to stop a federal agency from doing their own interpretation and their spin on federal law --unless Congress passes a new law to clarify things or close loopholes.

Congress COULD threaten to withhold funding but that would go over like a Clark Bar floating in the punch bowl at a holiday party!

Seriously, can you imagine the canpaign ads being used by the Democrats on the next election cycle against any Republican that voted to strip funding from a federal agency whose only focus is on public safety and the good of the community by getting illegal machine guns and terror weapons off the streets?

I think the best way to deal with this is legislate to eliminate Chevron deference across all alphabet agencies.

One big clown show like the Jan 6th hearings. Like when Facci was being harrassed. Like when a new potential Supreme Court Justice is grilled. Hard to pass laws when you are unable to work with other people that are not as narrow minded as you are.
