The relative that entrusted its keeping to me seemed certain it was issued to artillery officers but I dont really know.
Excellent piece. The 9 carved in the grips is more usual for C-96's as they were also about in 30 Mauser. Certainly valuable. They were issued to all ranks, so if it could be associated with an identified office, the value would increase. If only you had the wooden stock, you'd have hit the jackpot !
