give out a serial number on a gun to a new member through PM before you arrange a meet so he/she can check number to make sure gun is not stolen? I can assure anyone it is not! im just wondering can they do anything with the number if theyre shady? I have no reason to think they are but he ask for the number and ive never had that happen...GO...

Most police depts will not do a check on a firearm # unless they have it in their hands.

There is no other reliable way to check and see if a firearm is stolen.

People are crazy these days and you just never know......
My resolution would be to offer to meet at the local PD and have the serial number checked there.
agreed. people do stupid stuff. meeting at a local PD to have the search performed would be the best bet, if that can be done. just make sure the prospect is paying for it!

yea that's not a bad idea if it makes him feel better..however I think hes driving like 2 hrs to get here so im assuming hes wanting to know if it is which its not before he drives here...

I am the orginal owner of the gun!
How bad do you want to sell it? I've never had anyone ask. I see full SNs listed on other sites commonly. I'm not a big fan of giving out ANY information that isn't legally required but a potential buyer is free to ASK for anything they'd like. I'm free to oblige or pass.

well, if thats the case, you can either show him the supporting docs, or tell him its not worth the trouble. I like to think everybody on here is upstanding as I have never had any issues on ODT. If hes so worried about buying a gun that isnt "stolen"(just for arguments sake) tell him to goto a local shop and buy one. We aren't on this site to make people feel all warm and fuzzy about their buying experience
