Is it illegal to target practice on national forest land?

I know it’s illegal to target practice on WMA land.

But that’s not what I’m asking.

WMA land sometimes overlaps national forest land, but a lot of national forest land is NOT WMA land.

So if I’m on national forest land, and ONLY national forest land, can I target shoot?

Just buy 20 acres or more in rural GA and do whatever you want.

Littering is the one that is most likely to get you dinged. No bottles, no old boxes used as backers, no shot up beer cans, no shell boxes.

Even at formal ranges, getting shooters to clean up their crap is an ongoing task.

I asked a US Forest Service law enforcement officer that question. I was told the only thing he was concerned with was shooting right on or just off a road. No certain number of feet from road, but mostly out of sight.
