To be almost 50 and not own at least one 30-06 hunting rifle? Looking very close at a Vanguard. Or should I just get a .308?

This 30-06 thought ran through my Jim Beam soaked brain this past Saturday evening. I was at a Military Reunion. I was drinking and laughing with a man who’s call sign is “Big Sexy” oddly enough his is not big or sexy. My call sign was “Edog” - shocker. Anyway when “Big Sexy” got to the squadron as an O-2 LT.JG I was an E-4. I was the crew chief on his first real operational flight. He transitioned to the Air Force from the Navy in 2001-His rank in Uniform now is Brigadier General “Big Sexy” - he is accompanied by two large heavily armed men. He makes me damn proud to be an American. And then I realized I don’t own a 30-06.

One can NEVER own too many .308's.
But, ya gotta have at least one 30-06.

If you're just shooting Georgia whitetails, .308 is plenty powerful enough.

Own 30-06, 308's, and hunt with a 7.62x39 AR. Shot placement is more important than caliber any day for whitetail deer.

No flatter trajectory, or accuracy for the price, than a 30-06. JMHO.
