Is "knockdown power" real?

AN EASIER EXPERIMENT:

Try hanging a bucket or bag of sand or dirt from a rope attached to a tree limb at your local shooting spot outdoors.
Make it about 50 lbs of sand or whatever.
Shoot it.
Watch how much (how little) it starts swinging.
Then, punch it with your fist.
Smack it with a baseball bat.
See how much MORE it swings.

knock down is even less there when you look at our body too. Those logs were nice and hard and should have reacted better than our nice soft squishy bodies that things just push through. for a round to have literal "knock down" power it would need to expand upon impact but not penetrate at all, I would bet if you shot one of those logs with a rubber slug it would have a much better effect.

...trying to design body armor using pine logs...I'll make a fortune.

Maybe you can joint venture with this guy.

We would all like to believe the Hollywood movie stuff about our choice of firearm. The fact is, animals can get shot and continue to function and even fight until the shock wears off or the damage to vital systems are debilitating enough. We'd all lie to believe that our choice of weapon is THE best choice, but the fact is if you can put holes in your target where they will do damage to vital systems you have the right weapon for you.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The force acting one the one getting shot is roughly equal to the force acting upon the shooter.

while in theory this is true in this particular instance the force on the shooter is actually GREATER. when a round is fired in the gun it is pushing with ALL of its force backwards as its actually being held in place, when it hits, most of that force is used to penetrate so actually in most instances you'd have a greater chance of being knocked down from SHOOTING a big gun than being hit by one
