Is "knockdown power" real?

The physical attributes of a projectile weighing a few grains as expressed against the momentum of an object of any size is going to be minor. Even at extreme high speed the energy is not sufficient to actually knock down a large object. To exacerbate the problem most projectiles are going to penetrate somewhat, expending energy in that regard as opposed to transferring all available energy in contacting the objects surface. I think we all know even though Harry Callahan's .44 may ends someone's life it is not going to launch them airborne. The factor termed knock down power is likely misapplied when someone means stopping power. An equally arguable but much more accurately descriptive term.
